ILS 25R in VVTS (Ho-Chi-Minh-City)

ILS 25R in VVTS (Ho-Chi-Minh-City)

Problem: Chart interpretation on mandatory altitudes in VVTS.
On the ILS-W 25R in VVTS you can see an altitude restriction of 2000‘ at TS426 followed by a line to TS424, where it says „mandatory“ 2000‘.
The question is: Do the pilots have to maintain 2000‘ at TS426 or are they allowed cross TS426 above 2000‘.

In my opinion, Jeppesen charts gives some room for interpretation at this point.

Solution:

First of all, in Pubs/Eastern Europe Asia/General Airway Manual/Chart Legend/Approach Chart Legend it says: All altitudes depicted in the profile view are MINIMUM.

The chart from the Vietnamese AIP shows an underlined altitude of 600m (2000ft) at TS426 and a boxed (line underneath and above) 600m at TS424.

The answer is: Pilots can cross TS426 at or above 2000‘ and need to maintain 2000‘ mandatory at TS424.

I hope that clears some misunderstanding or misinterpretation of the procedure. Do not mistake with the procedure in VVDN where it says at FIRAI mandatory 2600‘ and FF35R mandatory 1480‘. That is a different procedure! (ILS V 25R VVDN, Chart 11-11)
